The East Asia-Pacific Early Child Development Scale (EAP-ECDS) Regional (Train of Trainer) Training Workshop was conducted over the span of 3 days from 12-14 July, 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop was well-received by the 20 participants representing INGO, government, NGO, University, UNICEF, ARNEC BoD and Secretariat’s staff. The participants from country teams are recruited based on an open call and came from countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Viet Nam, Timor Leste, Cambodia, Republic of Korea and Philippines. The workshop was led by three resources persons from HKU; Professor Nirmala Rao (Professor, HKU), Dr Diana Lee (lecturer, HKU) and Dr Ben Richards (Research Fellow, HKU).
The workshop had a total of 13 sessions, followed by a mock-up evaluation to assess the participants’ understanding of the materials and important information on the procedures of adaptation of the SCALES. Videos, hands-on session on scoring, life demonstrations, role-play were used to facilitate participants’ understanding on how the SCALES can be administered. We are excited on the next phase on the adaptation of the SCALES by various countries as there were some concrete plans for next step of actions discussed by the country team, mainly Viet Nam, Timor Leste and Cambodia. ARNEC will continue to work closely with the country teams to support them in the adaptation of the SCALES and further the work of EAP-ECDS. As a regional platform for ECD advocacy and knowledge-sharing, we will compile the reports and findings on the use of EAP-ECDS adapted by countries and share these more widely in the Region.
